Every semester a group of FFS students shares their stories with other at-risk teens at a nearby alternative high school. The 12-Step program is not practiced there as it is here, and their students' behavior problems are more evident. "Is that how I used to be?!" exclaimed one very surprised FFS boy after his recent eye-opening visit. He sounded a little disgusted. Another student had a similar reaction when she came across an industry publication that included several ads for therapeutic schools and programs. "I didn't know there were so many places like this," she said. It disturbed her to think of how many kids go over the line with their bad behavior.
We believe that healing starts with telling the truth, which means being able to see the truth. And sometimes we have to see the truth in others before we can see it in ourselves.
