Many troubled teens arrive here with less than stellar academic records. One of our goals is to maximize their academic potential by removing any psychological or emotional barriers to learning, and helping them acquire the discipline and study skills it takes to succeed. One student who finds math class especially frustrating, recently complained, "Math is just impossible for me and my math teacher is no help. I need a different class and a better teacher." A classmate who knows her pretty well responded, "No, you need a better attitude." The girl is struggling with depression and has other issues she is reluctant to open up about. "There are therapists here and lots of people who can help you with math. You just need to take advantage of them," she was told. We believe that when troubled teens begin to recover by developing themselves spiritually, physcially and mentally, the academic piece takes care of itself.
