Scott Cole, global and U.S. history teacher at The Family Foundation School, has been named scoutmaster for FFS Boy Scout Troop 174. Cole, who is an Eagle Scout himself, has been active in the troop since 2007 when he joined the faculty of FFS. He replaces former staff Bruce Hutchison as troop leader.
Scouting has been a popular extracurricular activity at FFS since the fall of 2005 when Troop 174 was organized as part of the Otschodela (Otsego, Schoharie, Delaware) Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Like team sports, scouting contributes to the character development and leadership training that is integral to the FFS mission. Dozens of boys have participated in scouting activities as members of Troop 174, including several who were scouts at home. To date five boys have earned Eagle Scout status while enrolled at the school.
In addition to his interest in scouting, Cole, who grew up in South Jersey near Philadelphia, is a history buff who holds a M.S. from Utica College. He is especially interested in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II.
