Boy Scout Troop 174
Family Foundation School Boy Scout Troop 174 was created in 2005. The Scout oath, law and goals fit in perfectly with the principles of The Family Foundation School. In its first year, two young men in the troop completed their work to become Eagle Scouts and were honored at an Eagle Court of Honor that the entire school attended. The troop has enjoyed such activities such as camping, snow skiing, hiking and biking, and offers unique experiences to FFS boys. It serves those who wish to begin a scouting career and pursue it after they leave, and is a valuable link for those who want to complete the adventure of scouting that was interrupted by their difficulties at home. The Boy Scout program begins at about 13 years old and ends at the 18th birthday.
Venturing Crew 174
As a complement to Boy Scout Troop 174, the school offers a program sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America called Venturing. This is an opportunity for young women to join a co-ed, high-adventure group for older teens. It also offers those boys who don't want to work on the advanced requirements of Boy Scouts, to focus on outdoor activities and learn leadership responsibilities that come through Venturing. Venturing Crew eligibility begins at 15 years old and continues to age 21. Both Boy Scouts and Venturing spend a good portion of their efforts on community service.
