In addition to the academic requirements, our students must successfully complete the prescribed living skills and character education program in order to graduate. It is this critical component that instills the honesty, empathy, care for others, and work ethic that distinguish our graduates.

Character Education Requirement
Graduation is not solely dependent on the completion of courses, but also on a student's successful completion of the recovery program. The principal, in the semester before a student expects to graduate, will confer with the Family Leaders and others to determine this progress. Should it be determined that a student is unlikely to graduate, the school informs the parents as soon as possible.

New York State Regents Exams & Graduation Requirements
Residents of other states may be unfamiliar with the New York Regents Exam system. The Regents are state-wide final exams available for all academic subjects. They have been in existence since 1865 and have always been associated with a college preparatory curriculum. Today, Regents exams in basic subjects serve a dual purpose as proficiency exams and as measures of academic achievement. New York State minimum graduation requirements require passing five Regents exams with a score of 55 or above in Math, English, US history and government, global history and a science. The more prestigious, Advanced Regents Diploma requires additional examinations in mathematics and science, and a third year Regents exam in a language other than English with scores of 65 or higher. Our curriculum is designed so that students who are New York residents, or who attend The Family Foundation School for a sufficient amount of time receive Advanced Regents Diplomas.

We use the Regents as our final exam in all subjects thus we have an external measure of the quality of instruction at The Family Foundation School and of our students' achievement.
