Soccer: Family School wins boys' title game

By Justin Rodriguez

MIDDLETOWN - This time, it was close. The Family School had beaten second-seeded Chapel Field three times during the regular season by a combined score of 21-2.

However, on a rainy day at Faller Field, Chapel Field hung with the top-seed for most of the game, losing 3-1 in the Section 9 Class D boys' soccer championship game on Saturday.

Evan Hesekiel scored what proved to be the game-winner, giving The Family School a 2-0 lead just 3 minutes and 23 seconds into the second half. Chris Bolduc answered for Chapel Field six minutes later. Yves Kipoliongo, who scored two goals, put the game away with 12:31 left in regulation.

The Family School (14-3) moves to play Suffolk County champion Smithtown Christian in the first round of the state tournament at 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Faller. Chapel Field (7-7-1), seeking its first Section 9 title since 1999, lost to The Family School by scores of 12-1, 5-0 and 4-1 during the year.

Saturday marked the seventh year in a row that The Family School, a school for at-risk students in Hancock, played for the Section 9 D title. The Falcons have won three titles during that span, losing to S.S. Seward in the final in 2003, '04, '06 and '08. Seward is now a Class C school.
